Host an Autumn Afternoon Tea for your Girlfriends

When's the last time you showed your girlfriends how much you appreciate their friendship? This season of thanksgiving is the perfect time to do just that before the holiday rush begins!

The idea for an "I'm Grateful You're My Girlfriend" tea comes from the lovely Meredith Sinclair of Hoo Dee Hoo.  She asked me for some party planning advice and we made a video so you can learn, too!  Check out our suggestions for dish/drink/decor, plus a fun activity:

More tips for making tea sandwiches

1) Brioche bread is the best (most bakeries and upmarket grocery stores carry it).  If you can't find any where you live, use thinly sliced white bread.

2) Fillings should be fairly smooth.  If the filling is somewhat chunky (like chicken salad) run it through the food processor first.  The sandwiches are easier to cut when fillings are smooth.

3) Build the sandwiches, then cut off crusts, and then cut diagonally.  Have a wet rag or paper towel handy to wipe the knife while cutting sandwiches...a clean knife means a cleanly cut sandwich!

4) Garnish with ingredients that compliment the filling.  For instance, a dab of stone ground mustard with a gherkin sliver atop a ham and cheese sandwich, or a bit of creme fraiche and dill for a salmon sandwich.

NEW VIDEO! How to Slice Goat Cheese (without making a mess)

Gosh, I feel like it's been forever since I've posted a new how-to video. Here's one of my favorite secret tricks - you can cleanly slice goat cheese using dental floss! Just make sure to use unflavored and unwaxed floss. I keep a roll in my gadget draw just for this purpose. It works on any soft cheese. Learn how to do it in this short video:

NEW VIDEO! Fix table nicks with a Sharpie.

I swear I have a don't-set-that-down-without-a-coaster rule but still, my dining room table manages to look a bit rough now and then.  How do I fix it?  With a Sharpie!  Find out how this inexpensive tool can get your furniture looking like new.

NEW VIDEO! How to make a chocolate bowl

Back in December, I shared a link on how to make a chocolate bowl.  I thought I'd revisit this idea for Valentine's Day, plus give you some step-by-step instructions.  Wouldn't this be a great way to serve V-Day dessert?  Watch my latest video for the complete how-to!
