Father's Day Gift Guide

Men are so impossible to shop for! While we women (read: me) are happy to receive a pretty bauble or the latest "it" bag, the boys present all sorts of challenges. Does he really want another book or team jersey? Whiskey rocks or cufflinks made from old subway tokens? If you're stuck, I've compiled a few suggestions to get the creative juices/credit cards moving.

It's true — even the manliest of men like to be pampered! Whether or not yours will go to a spa is debatable, so bring the spa to him with this Daniel Buchler 'Hydro' Turkish Terry Cotton Robe and Agraria Balsam Luxury Bath Bar.

The Culinaire likes to whip things up in the kitchen, so give him a new challenge with a Molecular Mixology Kit. Post dinner, test his knowledge with Foodie Fight: A Trivia Game for Serious Food Lovers.

The New Dad is no doubt blurry eyed and perhaps slightly frustrated, so give him a laugh reprieve with Bill Cosby, Himself. 30 years later, Bill's tales of parenthood still hold up. Speaking of holding, do NOT make your man carry the baby's gear in some hideous Winnie-the-Pooh bag. This Jack Spade Waxwear Pocket Briefcase pulls double duty as a baby bag and work bag.

Pose, smile, click! If Dad loves to capture the world around him, capture his coffee in a clever Camera Lens Mug. Over coffee, he can brush up on his technique with Tony Northrup's DSLR Book: How to Create Stunning Digital Photography.

Five STYLISH gifts for MEN

This selection was curated by Matt Solyst, a writer for my fashion/humor site, You Know You Love Fashion. Matt is an aspiring writer of TV, film and fiction, and you can follow him on Twitter @OldPastureLane.

Tis the season to be gifting, and the gifts of holidays past haunt us around every corner. Finding the perfect holiday gift for your better half seems like the running of the bulls: there will be confusion, chaos, and sometime during it you will say, "Why am I doing this to myself?" Stop running around and take the helpful hand of a handsome Spaniard  – we are here to help. Ole!

Retro Baseball Party for dads, grads, and birthdays

Know someone who loves baseball but is over the age of 12?  Look no further than this Vintage Baseball Party!  This fun retro theme is great for Father's Day, birthdays, graduation, or any other time you want to put a sophisticated spin on America's Favorite Pastime.

Take a look at the details and printable files (at the very bottom) below!

I covered the table with a wide runner of green felt and interspersed antiqued retro team logos (file below) with 3D baseball stickers from the scrapbook aisle of my local craft store.

Since my husband Dan loves the White Sox, I focused on them, but of course you can feature your favorite. Go a little crazy with your team's logo!

Create a photo station with a green backdrop, and pin a little ivy to the fabric (staples are an effective shortcut). Tuck a 3D baseball embellishment into the ivy...foul ball! Cut out an old fashioned moustache (file below), put it on a stick, and provide your guests with a hat and bat.  It's photo time!

Menu Ideas

Offer items off your local ballpark's menu (sushi in Seattle, garlic fries in San Francisco) or try these variations on the hot dog:
Chicago style
Coney Island chili sauce for hot dogs
Grilled hot dogs with mango chutney and red onion relish
Beer-simmered brats

Round it out with ballpark staples like popcorn, peanuts, and pretzels, plus summertime classics like watermelon slices, root beer floats, and bottles of your favorite brew.

Print-outs for your party

If you've got a blog and would like to share these with your readers, please link to this page, not to the individual files (and please let me know if you do link to this page so I can say THANK YOU!)

Popcorn Cones

To make popcorn cones, draw and cut on the grey lines, then wrap the shape around a disposable cup about 5" tall.  Finish with trim.  I used 12x12 scrapbook paper.  Download Pattern

Antiqued Logos

Arizona through Chicago Cincinnati through Houston Kansas City through NY Mets NY Yankees through Seattle St. Louis through Washington (and San Francisco)

Logos adapted from Chris Creamer's SportsLogos.net

All team logos are property of their respective teams. All other rights reserved, Second City Soiree.
