Twelve Days of Cocktails - Day 12: Mint Chocolate Kiss

It's the last installment of the Twelve Days of Cocktails.  Let's go out on a minty-chocolate-creamy bang, shall we?

Chocolate Mint Kiss
1.5 oz peppermint schnapps
1.5 oz chocolate liqueur
1 oz heavy cream

Garnish a cocktail glass rim with crushed candy canes (make them stick using the honey technique).  Shake ingredients over ice and strain into the glass.

Twelve Days of Cocktails - Day 11: Christmas Cosmo

What's your feeling on cosmos? Played out, courtesy of Carrie & Co. or classic, delicious, and impervious to overexposure? Eh, it's the holidays. Let's not overthink things.

Christmas Cosmopolitan
1/2 oz Cointreau
1/2 oz cranberry juice
1 tsp lime juice
1 oz vodka

Place all ingredients in a shaker with ice. Shake and strain into a chilled cocktail glass. Garnish with a skewer of fresh cranberries or float some frozen cranberries on top.

Twelve Days of Cocktails - Day 10: Amarula Sahara Martini

What's Amarula?  It's a cream-based liqueur from South Africa that has a vaguely caramel/berry flavor, and it's GOOD.  Available at larger liquor stores, near the Baileys and Kahlua.

Amarula Sahara Martini
1 part Amarula Cream
1 part Frangelico liqueur
½ part vodka

Shake over ice, and strain into a cocktail glass.  Garnish with strawberry with whipped cream.  If you wish, prior to pouring the drink into the glass, edge the glass with honey (more about that technique here) and then coat with cocoa.

Twelve Days of Cocktails - Day 9: Orange-Chocolate Truffle

Sometimes plain hot chocolate is not enough.  Sometimes you need hot chocolate that will make you feel really, really warm inside.  An Orange-Chocolate Truffle is just the ticket on a cold night.  Seeing as it's 3 degrees this morning in Chicago (-18 with the wind chill), I recommend you try this tonight!

Orange-Chocolate Truffle
1 oz Grand Marnier
1/2 oz añejo tequila (I used Tres Generaciones Añejo*)
3 oz hot chocolate
layer of fresh cream

Pour first three into a mug and stir. Top with whipped cream and chocolate shavings.

*Disclosure: I was invited to a TG tasting dinner and given a bottle of their Añejo. Only products I truly recommend, whether or not they were given to me for free, are mentioned on this site.
